Here's the step by step:
- Find that recipe I saw last time I was looking through the cookbook
- Take cold butter out of fridge to soften on pre-heating oven
- Measure sugars
- Baby is hungry, put him in the high chair, find something for him to have for dinner, warm said dinner, and feed baby.
- Clean baby up and return to toy pile in living room with sick daddy.
- Mix butter and sugar until fluffy (hmmm... what exactly is fluffy)
- Hold and calm crying baby (who has had a runny nose for 2 days and has come to be known as "giant heap of a mess")
- Add vanilla and eggs and mix
- Measure most of a cup of flour
- Gather up Giant Heap of a Mess from the living room floor where he has been pathetically crying for a couple minutes (I was really hoping he would find something to distract himself)
- Hold Giant Heap of a Mess while rocking and bouncing, rubbing his back and settling his head on my shoulder.
- Distract GHoaM with sippy cup and head back to the kitchen
- Listen to sick DH while measuring remaining flour
- Pour all flour back into flour canister to be remeasured
- Measure out flour (this time we counted the cups outloud for accountability)
- Add flour (gradually) to "wet" ingredients and mix
- Pause after each mixing to calm GHoaM (because he is afraid of the noisy mixer)
- Give up on the mixer and begin hand mixing
- Take GHoaM's temp (yeah... this involves removing the diaper) because sick DH thinks he's warm (and DH has a fever himself, so that should tell us something)
- Add Choc. Chips and mix (while GHoaM is with DH)
- Spoon dough onto cookie sheet while holding GHoaM (because DH is too weak to do it anymore)
Add to this any and all nose wiping and hand washing!
Is it any wonder! I'm now suprised it only took 90 minutes. They are yummy though! Another successful recipe from Taste of Home! (no, they are not paying me for this!)
Sick againb...your poor family. I will be praying that you stay healthy this time. You probably don't want to hear this but my family did the flu shots last year, adn it was amazing, no flu at all! Hang in there and practice a ton of patience! Oh and thank you for the detailed and very real account of your cookie-making with a sick household, made me smile:)
ReplyDeleteOh Sweetie! Wish I was there to help. You did great! DH and GHoaM are soo lucky to have you to take care of them!!!
ReplyDeletePrayers and kisses!!!
