Lyme's and Calling in the Troops

Just stopping in quick...

Diagnosis in today. Lyme's Disease. Uck!

Fevers are lower finally. Should be gone completely by Friday or so. Now we start the very long (weeks? months? anyone know?) journey through. Pain and exhaustion are the new normal and are to be expected. Started antibiotics tonight.

My Beloved called in "the troops". His parents arrive tomorrow night from all the way in Michigan. Dad will leave again on Thursday (thanks for bringing her Dad!) and mom will stay till we don't need her anymore. It will be nice to eat home cooked again. My Beloved has been working hard to care for me, keep a sick house kept up and doing everything with the kids but nurse the baby. We've had take out several times this week! Not that I'm hungry.

Hey friend! Sorry I have been out of touch lately, I will try to write you a real email soon, but until then, just wanted to let you know that I have been studying Lyme's Disease a lot lately since Mary has been diagnosed recently. Sounds like the doctors must have caught it early if you have the fever and all that. Do you have the bullseye rash? I pray that the antibiotics wipe it out quickly!

Wish I had seen this sooner. My sister had Lyme's Disease several years ago. She was 11 when she got this raised bullseye rash over her entire body. She also had swollen eyes. She didn't remember having a tick bite so the doctor diagnosed her with hives. The rash went away, but she ended up with what we thought was a terrible virus: fever, fatigue, aches, upset stomach, and throwing up. Throwing up is not a typical symptom of Lyme's so again, the doctor assumed it was something else. Then several months later, she had severe swelling in her knees. They had to drain multiple large vials of fluid off of her knees. This time, the doctor assumed it was a gymnastic-related injury.

Fast forward to almost 1 YEAR after her initial symptoms. Another doctor was reviewing her file and decided to do a few blood tests and discovered she had been suffering from Lyme's Disease for 11 months. She immediately went on medication and recovered relatively quickly. She is blessed because some people whose Lyme's goes undiagnosed for such a long period have long-term complications. My sister is 17 now and is 100% symptom free.
